AIR EMISSIONS LIMITS
New limits for air emissions from boilers and incinerators were issued by the EPA on December 20, 2012 as part of a revision to the Clean Air Act. The ruling set standards for major source boilers and area source boilers. A separate rule issued the standards for commercial and industrial solid waste incinerators. These final rules require compliance for major source boilers by 2016, for area source boilers by 2014, and for incinerators by 2018. The new standards will require costly improvements for affected industries but will cut emissions of pollutants. The EPA estimates that the reduced emissions will prevent 8,100 premature deaths and 5,100 heart attacks per year in 2015.
