AMERICAN JOBS ACT
President Obama recently proposed the “American Jobs Act,” a new bill to promote job growth within the United States. A component of the plan is funding schoolmodernization programs, including asbestos abatement and greening and energy efficiency upgrades. The 100 largest and most in need school districts will received funds for the identification, removal and disposal of asbestos.
Asbestos was used in building construction prior to 1978 and can be found in the ceiling tiles, floor coverings, heating and cooling systems of older buildings. Prolonged exposure to asbestos can create health problems such as cancer and lung disease. Identifying and removing the asbestos from our schools is an important task.
