Recently, Mayor A C Wharton announced that a $350,000 ArtPlace America grant has been awarded to the Broad Avenue Water Tower Depot, a new community development in Tioga's neighborhood, the Broad Avenue Arts District. We spent Saturday, May 11 volunteering with other women for Memphis Habitat's annual Women Build event. This year, Women Build took place at Memphis Habitat's rehab house in Collierville, Tenn., where we worked to remove old, damaged siding. We thought this was a perfect opportunity to give back to a great local organization that's on a mission to eliminate poverty housing and blight in our community. Recently, the Environmental Protection Agency reminded contractors and subcontractors that the RRP rule must be adhered to by issuing 17 enforcement actions across the country. The rule protects homeowners and tenants from hazardous lead dust that can be left behind after renovations or repairs to older homes.
