KANSAS CITY ABESTOS FINES
Two retail developers in Kansas City have pleaded guilty to federal grand jury charges of violating the Clean Air Act. The developers demolished multiple homes built with asbestos-containing materials without obtaining the proper permits. Both developers are facing up to five years in federal prison without parole and a fine up to $250,000.
Apparently, these homes were knocked down without any consideration to the potential asbestos materials within. The Clean Air Act is a federal regulation requiring careful inspection, removal, disposal and detailed record keeping of asbestos-containing building materials. It's best to trust a professional environmental consultant with this work to avoid any potential penalties.
