By now, you have probably seen the Go Green stamps that were issued last year by the United States Postal Service (USPS). The stamps feature a variety of suggestions for small, individual actions that can add up and have a positive impact on our environment. We recommend them! And as it turns out, it's not just lip service with the USPS.
The USPS has been working to reduce energy, water, consumables, and petroleum fuel usage. In 2011, these measures saved more than $34 million dollars and yielded $24 million for the Postal Service. 400 green teams within the USPS are spearheading the efforts in energy reduction and resource conservation. The goals for additional improvement before 2015 include:
Reduce facility energy use by 30%,
Reduce water use by 10%,
Reduce petroleum use by 20%, and
Reduce solid waste by 50%.
