Wetlands Scientist

Job Summary: The primary job duties of this position include performing field assessments of developed and undeveloped areas to identify and delineate aquatic resources.  A background in ecology, soils, hydrology and / or engineering would be helpful.  QHP certification through the State of Tennessee necessary.  Field efforts will include walking up to 10 miles in one day in varying weather conditions.
Other duties involve assessing properties for hazardous constituents.  Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and National Environmental Policy Act assessments are a regular part of this work.  Mapping of resources is necessary and training in AutoCad would be helpful.
Communicating with our clients is the most important part of our job. We are not only out in the field with our clients every day, but we also prepare written reports that document our services. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are critical to our success.  
The ideal candidate will have 5 to 10 years of experience in the field and a significant amount of technical report-writing experience. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform field assessments to identify aquatic resources
  • Provide Phase I Environmental Site Assessments
  • Provide technical support for environmental sampling
  • Prepare reports and mapping for review and submission to client
  • Represent Tioga in a professional manner

Position Requirements:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Periodic travel and/or field work (valid driver’s license and good driving record required)
  • Able to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with co-workers, clients and subcontractors
  • Able to work with minimal oversight, but take direction from Managers
  • Able to meet deadlines, both internally and externally
  • A “can do” attitude and are ready to take on any project thrown your way
  • Proficient in AutoCAD a plus

Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific field
Experience:
5 to 10 years of experience, plus a significant amount of technical report-writing experience.
Licensure/Certification/Registration Requirements: Tioga will train and arrange for certification for the right candidate.
Safety and Equipment Requirements: Tioga ensures all employees are trained in 40-Hour HAZWOPER and are respirator fit tested prior to wearing a respirator. Additionally, on-the-job training is provided in the proper use and storage of personal protective equipment.
