NPDES GENERAL PERMIT
STATE OF TENNESSEE STORMWATER SAMPLING
The State of Tennessee requires industrial facilities to maintain Storm Water Pollution Plans (SWPPP) and perform quarterly monitoring of the stormwater outfalls. To help a number of local industries maintain compliance, Tioga offers stormwater sampling services.
Tioga staff notifies the facility when a qualified storm event is approaching and prepares the sample kit. Our team obtains the sample in the field, submits the samples for laboratory analysis, and compiles a summary report describing the event. The report typically includes weather observations, visual results, analytical results and a discussion of any anomalies.
In the event that a sample exceeds a benchmark value, Tioga prepares a notification letter to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation on the industry’s behalf and works with the facility to review the SWPPP, make any modifications or additions to the plan which would result in reducing runoff concentrations to less than the benchmark concentrations for that parameter, and submit to the Environmental Field Office a summary of the proposed SWPPP modifications.
