Dunan Wastewater

INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER DISCHARGE
Dunan 2

In early 2017 DunAn Precision Manufacturing, Inc. began developing a new manufacturing operation in Memphis, Tennessee.  The processes included manufacturing aluminum microchannel heat exchangers and copper tubing products for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) of the Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC&R) industry.  DunAn has developed three lines of operation; two “Fin Mill” lines where heat exchangers are manufactured and one “Tube Mill” line where copper tubing is bent and formed for use on completed units.

Operations at this facility include various testing modules and tanks for cleaning the copper tubing and wastewater is generated.  Tioga was preparing air permit applications for the construction of these manufacturing lines when DunAn asked Tioga to additionally help with permitting the wastewater discharge.

Tioga worked with the client to develop estimates for flow discharge rates and pollutant concentrations from this new operation.  With this information Tioga prepared an Industrial Wastewater Discharge Permit Application for submission to the City of Memphis, Division of Public Works.  The application included documentation submitted to the City of Memphis Sewer Design Department to receive a determination letter regarding flow availability.  After submission, Tioga worked with the City and DunAn to answer questions and ensure that the new permit was representative of future operations.  During discussions it was determined that DunAn would not be a Categorical Industrial User.

Now that DunAn is operating Tioga has been engaged to provide regular monitoring of the wastewater discharge from the facility.  Because operations have evolved with time, Tioga is currently assisting with the installation of a flow meter and pH probe at the discharge location.
